North Little Rock has an amazingly fascinating history thanks to its independent, hard-working citizens.
Our city’s History Commission and staff have worked tirelessly to capture this history by using artifacts, photographs, maps, interactive stations, and other media on the first floor of the North Little Rock Heritage Center. The center is at 506 Main Street in the heart of the Argenta Historic District.
The very building that houses the center is a testament to the independent spirit of our city’s people. The structure was built in 1895 as Hose Cart Company No. 6 of the Little Rock Fire Department. At the time the area was part of Little Rock’s Eighth Ward. Details about how our citizens established their own separate city can be found elsewhere on this website and, of course, in the many exhibits at the Heritage Center.
Exhibits range from our area’s beginnings as wilderness swamplands to the thriving city it is today. Running through the exhibits are inspiring stories of our amazing people.
