I-30 West Traffic Shifts onto New River Bridge

Interstate 30 westbound traffic in North Little Rock will move onto the Arkansas River bridge beginning Friday evening, September 16.
Weather permitting, crews will shift I-30 westbound traffic onto the river bridge in the overnight hours starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, September 16 until noon on Saturday, September 17. Various westbound entrance and exit ramps will be impacted during this stage.
This traffic switch is the third and final phase to move I-30 traffic onto the new river bridge. The following traffic pattern changes are included in this third phase. See map NR 22-199-C for additional details.
- I-30 westbound traffic will move from its existing alignment onto the new
river bridge. - In North Little Rock, the westbound on-ramp at Broadway Street will temporarily close and a new temporary ramp will open at Bishop Lindsey Avenue. To access I-30 westbound from North Little Rock, all traffic will take the northbound frontage road to the Texas U-Turn at Bishop Lindsey Avenue and the new on-ramp. - In Little Rock, westbound exit ramps at 2nd and 6th streets will close and a new temporary exit ramp will open at 9th Street. To access downtown Little Rock from I-30 westbound, traffic will take the new exit ramp at 9th Street and use the northbound frontage road. See map NR 22-218-B for additional information.
Following this traffic shift, the existing river bridge will be prepared for demolition beginning next week. More information regarding the demolition will be available Friday, September 16.

Bridge Demolition to Cause Extra Noise Downtown

The contractor for the 30 Crossing project will begin bridge demolition operations on Monday, September 19.
The removal of the old Interstate 30 Arkansas River Bridge will occur in four phases; the first is to remove the existing concrete roadway. Downtown Little Rock and North Little Rock will experience loud noise associated with the removal of the existing concrete roadway. Demolition operations will be limited to daytime hours and will be sporadic over the next 10 months; Phase 1 is expected to last until the end of 2022.
The contractor will simultaneously demolish the old bridge and construct the new bridge at the same location; the new bridge should open in 18 to 24 months.
Once the bridges are complete, each direction will have three through lanes, two collector/distributer lanes, an auxiliary lane—for a total of 12 lanes—and full width shoulders all around. The goal of these improvements is to create a safer, more efficient corridor through the downtown area.
