Trail Work Day: Volunteers Wanted

City of NLR to hold work day on Trails

The North Little Rock Parks and Recreation Department is holding a Volunteer Work Day on Saturday, August 24th beginning at 8:00 am at the Burns Park Equestrian Trail Head located at 4700 Joe Poch Road. This volunteer trail maintenance work day will help continue the recovery effort of the trails from last year’s tornado in converting them to a family friendly experience. We are seeking volunteers to do some trail maintenance: raking loose rocks off the trail, lopping limbs and leaves off trees, removing a few rocks or pounding rocks, clearing out limbs and lots to improve water flow, and other small activities. If you come, we strongly suggest you bring gloves, water, safety glasses, sunscreen, sturdy boots/shoes (not flipflops), and insect protection. Feel free to bring any tools you like to use.

In the past, the trails were challenging for mountain bike riders as well as younger walkers. North Little Rock Parks and Recreation is changing the natural surface trails in Burns Park. We are keeping our diverse trail users such as walkers, dog walkers, runners, and bike and horse riders. Trail users have praised the changes, and we are now seeing six-year-old kids participating in mountain bike riding, young mountain bike club members are training on the new trails, and families are mountain bike riding or hiking together. Events scheduled on the trails include Hash House Harriers, Feel the Burn Trail Runs for 10K, 30K, and 50K distances, and a lot of people from around central Arkansas are planning to use the new trails. We look forward to working with you on the trails in Burns Park on Saturday, August 24th, and also see families and outdoors folks out on the trails year-round!
