NLR Community Garden Program Continues to Flourish

North Little Rock, Arkansas (August 2, 2023)…The City of North Little Rock is proud of the creative ways our community gardens are benefiting North Little Rock residents. Included in this release is a link to the new Community Garden video that highlights a few of our newest programs:

One of the greatest needs in North Little Rock is access to healthy, affordable and nutritious food. The NLR Community Garden Program, established in 2009, promotes an effort to address food insecurity and simultaneously beautify our city. A community garden can be defined as any piece of land gardened collectively by a group of people; including non-profits, community centers, faith-based organizations, and schools. The program supplies gardens with free soil, mulch, compost, seeds, plants, educational and work-day opportunities, highlights accomplishments on social media, and donates excess garden produce to local food banks. The program also encourages new and existing gardens to join our program by applying for our seasonal funding grants! Additional consideration will be given to community gardens that plan to donate excess produce, grow produce year-round and host educational workshops. Applications are accepted throughout the year for the garden program and are reviewed twice a year, June 15 and December 15. To learn more about this program or to apply for funding, visit the Community Garden’s web page.
