]]> North Little Rock Parks and Recreation is officially inviting young athletes to join its NLR Youth Cheerleading program for the upcoming season. Tryouts and team placements for the 2026–2027 Elite Star Recreation Competition Teams will take place on Saturday, June 13th, at the North Heights Community Center, located at 4801 Allen Street. The program is open to youth ages 6 to 14, and all cheer skill levels are welcome to participate.

A mandatory cheer skill clinic will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by tryout evaluations starting at 1:00 p.m. Participants are required to wear a black tank top, black shorts, a white bow, and athletic cheer shoes. Please bring a light lunch or snack and a water bottle. We will also be hosting weekly Open Gym sessions every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. While these sessions offer an excellent opportunity for athletes to sharpen their skills and build confidence before the evaluations, attendance at the open gyms is entirely optional and not a requirement for tryouts.

Class Groups:

  • Preschool Gymnastics – For boys and girls ages 3-5 years old. The goal for this class is for our youngest gymnasts to experience a playful and engaging introduction into gymnastics.
  • Boys Gymnastics – For school age boys. This class will introduce the basics in men’s gymnastics. They will gain confidence in strength, coordination, balance, and flexibility.
  • Boys Parkour – For school age boys. This class will introduce the basics in men’s gymnastics, obstacle course training, and agility training. They will gain confidence in strength, coordination, balance, and flexibility.
  • Girls Beginner Gymnastics – For school age girls. This class introduces the basics in women’s gymnastics. Gaining confidence on balance beam, vault, uneven bars, and floor exercise.
  • Girls Intermediate Gymnastics – This class is for our gymnasts who have progressed beyond beginner gymnastics classes. Skill levels are more challenging. Athlete must be evaluated to be enrolled in intermediate.
  • Beginner Tumbling – For school age boys and girls . Wanting to learn the basics of tumbling and trampoline.
  • Intermediate / Advanced Tumbling – For school age boys and girls that have progressed beyond beginner tumbling skills. Athletes must be evaluated to be enrolled in intermediate / advanced.
  • Toddler Open Gym – For aged 0-5 and their caregivers. Enjoy some unstructured supervised free-play.
