North Little Rock, Arkansas (August 9, 2023)…Earlier today, Mayor Terry Hartwick and Dollar General Chief Executive Officer Jeff Owen celebrated the new Dollar General Distribution Center with Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Representatives Hill and Crawford, Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce President Derrell Hartwick, Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce Jay Chesshir as well as a host of state economic development leaders. North Little Rock is proud to be home to the impressive, 1.2 million square foot facility located on Arkansas Highway 70 in the east part of our city. This distribution center will provide employment opportunities in both North Little Rock and Central Arkansas. “The North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and economic team in our city have done an excellent job in developing and utilizing property throughout our city. We are excited to have Dollar General in North Little Rock,” shared Mayor Terry Hartwick. This facility will be used to distribute products to the Dollar General Stores statewide, including the new Dollar General Markets concept. Dollar General Markets stock produce, meat, and other foods that are not typically found in dollar stores. The distribution center is currently under construction and will house a cold storage component to deliver fresh products to stores. Construction should be completed on the new facility in 2024. Thanks to the City of North Little Rock’s Economic Development team and the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce for securing and developing this project.

Progress continues on the full-service medical clinic in the east part of North Little Rock. The state-of-the-art building has an estimated total cost of $5,000,000 with a targeted completion date of May 2024. This 6,357 square foot facility will help improve the health of residents in Rose City. The City of North Little Rock broke ground August 1, 2022 on the clinic which is a partnership between the City of North Little Rock and Baptist Health. Community leaders and the City of North Little Rock are proud of the progress being made in the east part of our city.

Dictionary.com defines the word foundation as the basis or groundwork of anything as well as, the natural or prepared ground or base on which some structure rests.

Today (July 28, 2023) was a key date in the construction of the health clinic on East Broadway. At 4 am, crews for Alessi Keyes Construction were pouring the foundation in preparation of steel delivery on Friday of this week (7/21).

It is important in another way. For a city to have a strong foundation, it starts with its healthcare system. That is why this clinic is so important. The Rose City/East NLR area has been without a medical office since the fire destroyed Dr. Pledger’s clinic in June of 2013. The partnership with Baptist Health and the City of North Little Rock is bringing a full medical office to meet the healthcare needs of its residents on the eastside of town. This project is already spurring interests of other businesses to look to locate in the area and new housing developments are being planned.

This is laying a foundation for future growth.

Demolition of the old Clendenin School at 13th and Main began recently, clearing the way for the city’s new Central Fire Station. It is the site of North Little Rock’s first high school built in 1902, shown here in two photo images. That four-story school building, which featured a tall central bell tower, was torn down in 1950, though it didn’t come down until after the newer two-story L-shaped building was built around the older building, shown here in a June 1950 School District publication. The newer Clendenin School – the one just razed — is shown here in a photo image from the 1950s. Known as Clendenin Elementary for most of the period from 1913 to 1971, the school was renamed Argenta Elementary and then renamed Argenta Academy in 1990. The North Little Rock School District closed the building and sold it in 2015.
