The NLRFD is a true community partner, offering many ways for the public to learn about fire safety and injury prevention.

Funding for our community services relies on grants and community support. If you would like to donate to one of our great programs, please contact NLRFD Central Office at (501) 340-5377.

Annual Fire Fest

Often imitated, but never duplicated, NLRFD’s Annual Fire Fest celebrates National Fire Prevention Week with kids’ activities, an obstacle course, truck displays, free health screenings, food and fun.

Fire Fest is held during National Fire Prevention Week (2nd week of October). This years Fire Fest will be on Thursday October 8th at the Kroger on McCain and North HIlls. National Fire Prevention Week is the longest running public health and safety observance on record. It was established in 1922 to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres.

Kids’ Fire Academy

The North Little Rock Fire Department hosts the Kids’ Fire Academy each summer for kids 8-12. Kids’ Fire Academy is a great way for kids to have fun while learning important fire safety skills as well as fire prevention and bicycle safety.

For Academy dates and information, contact the Fire Marshal’s office at (501) 812-5942 or (501) 812-5941, or email

Pink Truck

NLRFD is the proud owner of Arkansas’ first pink fire truck in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. The Pink Truck can be found greeting Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure participants to North Little Rock each year.

G & W Diesel from Memphis, TN donated this 1979 Mack Fire Truck to our department once the idea was born to create a Pink Fire Truck to support the Komen Race for the Cure. Our department has been touched by cancer through loved ones, friends and co-workers. In 2009, to honor our survivors and in memory of those who did not survive, NLR firefighters personally transformed a fire truck into a symbol of hope. The pink truck is used throughout Central Arkansas to help generate support for research and education as well as raise awareness for many worthwhile charities. Firefighters save lives. We want to help find a cure!

F.O.C.U.S. Program

In efforts to minimize the loss of life and property to the citizens of North Little Rock, the NLRFD developed the "Firefighters Organize Community Understanding on Safety” (F.O.C.U.S.) Program. This program educates the public on home fire safety through voluntary home fire safety surveys and a home smoke alarm installation and check. To have a free smoke alarm installed or a home fire safety survey performed, please call us at (501) 340-5377.
