Code Enforcement

The purpose of Code Enforcement is to provide minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety, and general welfare through the regulation and enforcement of the North Little Rock Municipal Codes.

FREQUENT VIOLATIONS RECEIVED AS COMPLAINTS

  1. Removal of uncut weeds or grass and other unsightly articles: All property owners within the city are required to cut all unsightly weeds and grass, and remove stagnant pools of water or abate any other unsanitary/unsightly item, place or condition which might become a breeding place for mosquitoes, flies and germs harmful to the health of the community.
     
  2. Storage of abandoned/wrecked/inoperable vehicles: North Little Rock municipal code as amended, regulates open storage, parking, keeping or leaving of certain subject items (boats, motor vehicles, and trailers of any sort including farm implements) and major portions thereof regardless of whether currently registered. Under no circumstances may any such item be left on public property, whether attended or not, for more than seventy-two (72) hours unless within a building or unless held in connection with a licensed business operation in compliance with city zoning. All violations constitute a public nuisance.
     
  3. Housing inspections or condemnation
    • A. Unsafe Residential Buildings: All residential buildings or structures used as such which are unsafe, unsanitary, unfit for human habitation, or not provided with adequate egress, or which in relation to existing use constitute a hazard to
    • B. safety or health by reason of inadequate maintenance, dilapidation, obsolescence, or abandonment, are considered unsafe buildings. All such unsafe buildings are hereby declared illegal and shall be abated by repair and rehabilitation or by demolition.
       
  4. Food inspections
    • A. Arkansas Department of Health Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Food Service Establishments: All persons engaged in the activity of food service to the general public shall utilize sanitary protective devices and/or utensils so as to prohibit direct manual contact with such food. Such protective devices and/or utensils shall be disposable or shall be cleaned and sanitized in accordance with the requirements of Sections 5-101, et, seq., of the Arkansas Department of Health Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Food Service Establishments, relating to personnel. This provision shall be in addition to Sections 3-201, et seq., of the Arkansas Department of Health Rules and Regulations Pertaining to Food Service Establishments, relating to personnel.
       
  5. Signs
    • A. Code Enforcement officers inspect and enforce Municipal Codes regarding all commercial signs within the City of North Little Rock.
    • B. It is unlawful to post any signs (e.g., business opportunities) on public property (utility poles, traffic signs, etc.) or public right of way.
