North Little Rock's Fit 2 Live Community Garden Committee recently awarded its Fall 2015 round of garden funding to six projects - five existing and one new. The awarded projects are:
- St. Joseph's Hunger Relief Garden - $4,800
To run irrigation out to a 1/2-acre plot that will be cultivated with vegetables for donation to the Arkansas Food Bank, through a partnership with the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.
- Heritage House - $4,400
To install a greenhouse and toolshed and expand the varieties of food grown in the garden.
- North Little Rock Community Farm - $4,000
To build more raised beds, increase solar power and automate irrigation.
- The Field - $2,800
To build bee boxes and chicken coops for other community gardens to expand gardens' ability to pollinate crops and produce healthy food items (honey, eggs) for sale and use by the gardeners.
- First Presbyterian Church Community Garden - $1,500
To replace wooden garden boxes with concrete blocks, provide seating and improve growing areas.
- St. Joseph Universal Institute of Theology - $1,500
To start a new raised bed garden in the Meadow Park neighborhood (108 E Emily St).
