Special Election

We encourage everyone to go vote!

The North Little Rock City Council called for a special election to be held on August 8th, 2017. Registered voters of North Little Rock will vote FOR or AGAINST the sales tax issue. This website does not, and will not, advocate either for or against the measure. We will provide a link to the ordinance calling for the election and provide a brief summary of the issue.

A short summary of the issue:

The city currently has a 1% sales tax rate that provides funds for capital projects and city maintenance and operations. This election calls for increasing that 1% rate by an additional 1%, with half of that amount to expire after five years. The half percent that will expire in five years may only be used for street and drainage improvements and police, fire, and courts facilities. The half percent that does not expire may be used for general city operations and maintenance.

The exact wording of the ballot issue:

Providing for the levy of a one percent (1%) sales and use tax within the City of North Little Rock, Arkansas; one-half of which shall only be levied until December 31, 2022 and shall only be used to acquire, construct, repair, equip and/or improve streets, drainage structures; and facilities for the Police Department, the Fire Department, and the District Courts, and one-half of which shall not be limited in duration or use; and prescribing other matters pertaining thereto
